Nir Kenner is a Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Spines. He leads the teams developing the tech designed to carry a book from a writer’s desk to readers’ hands around the world. Much of his work is the quiet part of publishing that authors never see: the systems, tools, and AI that effectuate how quickly a book moves through the process and how clearly its author can follow it. What guides how he builds it all has little to do with engineering and everything to do with understanding. He knows a book is rarely just a book. Often, it’s years of someone’s life, and that understanding is the foundation of everything his team creates.
Great stories deserve great systems behind them.
Nir spent his career doing one thing: finding a real problem and building the thing that solves it. He led product and development teams for years, turning tangled, complicated work into tangible tools people could actually use. When he met his future co-founders and looked closely at how books were published, he saw an industry built entirely on creativity, still running on processes barely touched in decades.
Coming from technology rather than publishing turned out to be his key team advantage. He had no attachment to the way things had been done. He looked at the whole process and asked why any part of it worked the way it did. What he found was that most of what slows authors down has nothing to do with writing. It’s operational: the delays, the scattered messages, the workflows nobody had ever stopped to redesign. Clearing them away became a problem worth his full attention.
Nir treats building as a creative act as much as a technical one. Publishing gave him something worth that kind of imagination. Today, he leads the technology behind the entire Spines journey, from the automation to the very tools authors work with, to the AI that supports our professional team moving a manuscript to a finished, published book.
Most authors never see these systems directly, but they feel them everywhere. They show up in how fast their book moves through each stage. In how clearly they can follow the process. In how much support reaches them before they even think to ask.
At Spines, AI and publishing experts work together doing what they do best. AI moves your book through the process, handling the busywork and the mechanical steps so nothing stalls and your book keeps progressing from one stage to the next. The creative decisions giving your book its soul, the editorial judgments and industry standards, and the decisions centering around who and what your writing is reaching for, stay with the experienced professionals. Together they carry your book further and faster than either could alone. From our first look to your finished book, you remain in control as the author.
For Nir, nothing compares to watching an author hold their finished book for the first time, especially after years of thinking it might never happen. Spines helps writers move past the overwhelm and turn maybe someday into a book they can finally hold in their hands.
